Seven of the Family of Nine Who Died From Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Buried at the Weekend

Seven of the family of nine who died after burying their mother at Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, was buried in one long grave over the weekend.
His Grace, Dr. Anthony J.V. Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province while speaking during a mass organized for the deceased ones described the burial of seven people from the same family as horrible.
The Catholic Archbishop said; “Though the gathering is a sad one, it is out of love for the deceased persons and for the relatives that we are here. We must remind ourselves of the reality of death.”
He said the false rumour that trailed the death of the Emekuku Nine showed unnecessary fear of death and lack of faith.
“Christians must be wise, as well as realize that some opportunistic persons in society cash in on moments of temptation and tension to get what they want.
“There are lots of 419 spiritual people, who use the opportunity of poor faith to do business, thus creating problems in families,” Obinna said.
Reports say the autopsy report released by the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Joe Obi-Njoku, had confirmed that the nine persons died from suffocation after inhaling carbon monoxide from a generating set.
The state government has therefore issued clear directives on the use of electric generating sets, pointing out that families should build generator houses away from living rooms to avoid a repeat of the ugly incident.
Nigerians reacting to the issue have blamed it on government for the government’s inability to provide steady power supply.
“There have been too many deaths as a result of inhalation of Carbon monoxide and the government is advising us to build generator houses far from our house? Why can’t they ensure adequate power supply so that we don’t have to use generators?” Mr Badmus said.
The family of nine were discovered dead on Sunday July 8, 2012 in Umuakuru village in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State after they had buried their 98-year-old mother, Mrs Felicia Njoku on Saturday, July 7 in their country home. The deceased include Mr. Pascal Njoku, his wife Juliana and their five children, Ebere (first daughter), Ifunanya (second daughter), Chibueze (son) Jackline (third daughter) and Uchechi (last daughter).
Others, who also died along with the Njokus, were Mr. Njoku’s sister, Christina Uba (nee Njoku) and her friend Catherine who accompanied her to the burial.

Man With Two Manhoods Shares His Lifestyle

The NSFW memoir is called Double Header: My Life With Two Penises and is available as a Kindle eBook (because, y’know, it might not be something you want to wave around on the Tube).
A year ago, the bisexual man, who calls himself DoubleD**kDude (DDD) started a thread on Reddit with the immortal line: ‘I am the guy with two penises. AMA (ask me anything)’.
Underneath he wrote, ‘FAQ: Both are 100% functional. What I was born with is called Diphallia. I did NOT absorb a twin. It’s not genetic or inherited. I am bisexual and in a committed relationship with a man and a woman, but have permission to stray only with James Franco… wherever he is. :)’
And he included photographic evidence.
The man, who’s believed to be American, spent 48 hours answering questions about the condition, which is extremely rare – an estimated one in every six million boys in America are born with it. Of those, very few (if any) are thought to have two in working order. Most have one removed at an early age. DDD did not as his mum was worried about the surgery.
Now, exactly one year on, the 45-year-old’s published a detailed account of his life so far, where he talks frankly about the downsides of having two penises, including his ‘hellish’ childhood coming to terms with the condition. He also documents some of his wilder s*xual encounters (he says he’s slept with more than 1000 men and women), and attempts to answer ALL the questions.
Just for the record, the penises are individually able to achieve erection and climax. And he can urinate or release simultaneously.
DDD spoke to Rolling Stone about why he decided to write the book. ‘Before I was ‘DoubleD**kDude,’ no one cared about what I had to say,” he says. ‘Since then, I’ve been able to help people who felt alone or lost. I’ve gotten so many messages from people who need encouragement for one thing or another.
‘With so much negativity in the world, the ability to bring something positive to the table is a great feeling.’
Sounds like it might be a hard one to put down.

I Will Never Date A Celebrity Again – Iyanya

Since winning the maiden season of MTN Project Fame West Africa, Iyanya Mbuk has been a consistent hitmaker. The multiple award-winning star bares his mind about fame, money and women like never before
Why have you retained the name Iyanya instead of opting for a funky alias?
It is my birth name. It was given to me by my parents so why would I not be proud of it? I don’t have anything against artistes who use aliases but that is their choice and this is mine.
A lot of people think that fame has altered your personality. Is this true?
People have the right to believe whatever they want to. There is nobody in this world that would attain this level of success and fame, and remain the same. My life has changed and I am not going to tell you otherwise. I am not Iyanya of eight years ago; I am more exposed and have more fans. You can’t compare the pressure that was on me in 2008 to the pressure on me now. For me to even have this level of sanity, I believe it is God’s grace and people should pray and support me instead of saying I have changed. You see me wearing nice suits but if I give a fan my life to live for a week, not everybody will agree to continue after a few days.
Why do you think so?
There is a lot of money but it comes with a lot of pressure. Imagine waking up to people being rude to you on social media. You wake up to curses because you tweeted that God just blessed you with a car, for instance.
But you show off on social media…
Sincerely, I don’t show off. Anybody that thinks I show off is suffering from inferiority complex. The only people that think I show off are those people that think they could be me or people who wish they could be close to me but can’t be. Maybe they like me too much and don’t want to agree they like me that much. These same people spend hours admiring the posts I put up.
What is the reason for putting up some of those pictures on Instagram and Twitter?
That is what social media is for. It is only in Nigeria that people have a problem with you posting pictures. While you are complaining that I am posting too many pictures, a true fan is admiring same and considers me as a mentor. Believe me, a lot of people think they know me, but they don’t.
Who is Iyanya?
I am just me and I still have the same friends; those that have stayed with me and those that unfortunately have gone. Mind you, I did not chase any of them away.
Some of your fans think you are less humble than you were eight years ago.
Tell them to come and say it to my face and I will ask them if they have ever had a one-one-one like this with me or they just heard or read it somewhere.
Are you saying you are grossly misunderstood?
There is something about a guy that never used to wear nice suits and all of a sudden, he wears the best suits. The person has moved to another level and what you are supposed to do is support the person and not attempt to bring him down.
From your experience, are fame and wealth intoxicating?
Yes, they are intoxicating. Everything we have today has a way of affecting our behaviour or psyche. It now depends on the grace and maturity to manage yourself. If you wake up one day and realise that when you drive on the streets, people acknowledge you, you will think you are a god if you allow it get to your head. I don’t have a problem with people thinking I have changed because I am one guy who does not get carried away by all I have achieved. I believe there is more to achieve.
How do you handle the pressure that comes with being in the limelight?
It’s not easy. I just try to manage these things but there are times I feel like cursing people. They should understand I am human too; I was in a show one day when a caller said I used my family for rituals to enable me get to where I am. The blogs did not see that but if I replied the guy and said ‘God punish you,’ the blogs will say Iyanya cursed his fan. Because you see me on television does not mean I don’t have feelings or I don’t have my own problems. I am not different from the guy next door; I still wash my briefs.
You have made money…
I don’t understand all this talk about money. I just started making money. When I make money, you won’t need to ask me if I have made money. Can you ask Jay Z or Swiss Beatz if they have made money? When you see me, you will know I have made money. Right now, you are seeing a potential money-maker.
A lot of women see you as a s*x symbol. Is this deliberate on your part?
It is not deliberate; it is just me trying to keep fit and I have seen that it helps boost my fan base. I am consistent with my exercises and I try to work out often. It’s not necessarily for the ladies.
As a successful artiste, do you still have role models?
I look up to a lot of people and listen to them for inspiration. Tuface has always been an inspiration. When I discuss the things people say about me with him, he gives me hope.
Apart from music, what else do you do?
It’s just music for now, but when the other things I am doing get bigger, you will know.
What’s a typical day in your life like?
It depends. It can be like this: having an interview and a photo shoot. At other times, I can be home from morning till night when I don’t have outside engagements.
How did you cultivate your style?
I have never thought about it. I just wear what I have. But then, I have some stylists I work with to make me look different.
What kind of woman do you want to settle down with?
A good woman is a good woman. You can’t just sit and say this is the kind of woman I want. Some people think the best place to get a girl is in the church; meanwhile, you can get the wrong girl in the right place. Sometimes, I am worried about getting the right woman to marry because of my status. I have had one or two women come into my life and act like they are something. The safest thing to do is marry someone you have known before you became a star.
After Yvonne Nelson, would you date a celebrity in the future?
Yvonne Nelson is an amazing person, but I would never ever in my life date or have anything to do with a female star. I am not cut out for that kind of drama.
Is Iyanya romant*ic?
I don’t know about that. Why don’t you date me and find out.

11 Things That Instantly Makes A Man Hot

These are 11 things I came up with:
1. Strength — I don’t mean how much a man can bench press, although a nice set of pecs doesn’t hurt. I’m talking about internal-fortitude strength. Firmly-planted, I-know-who-I-am strength. There is nothing sexier than a man who’s grounded, who’s in command of the impulses and anger that may have derailed him when he was younger, whose quiet confidence telegraphs, without a hint of arrogance, that he has nothing to prove.
2. Vulnerability — A man isn’t strong unless he is also vulnerable. This means he can tell you what he wants, when he’s afraid, how you make him feel, what he did that he’s made amends for, what he’s overcome, what brings him to his knees. Without transparency, there can be no genuine intimacy, that ingredient that makes s*x remain sexy when the initial high of infatuation dissipates.
3. Integrity — This ingredient separates the boys from the men. While they may dazzle in the beginning, womanizers, scoundrels, and narcissists use lies, cheap tricks, and smoke and mirrors for personal gain. There is nothing sexy about a man who pretends to be something he’s not, who lacks any depth of feeling, and who doesn’t care how much blood he leaves on the tracks. If you gave me a choice between bedding Don Draper and Atticus Finch, I’d choose that soft-spoken lawyer any day.
4. Intellect — A beautiful mind is sexy. IQ points are great, but that’s just a piece of smart. Critical thinking, an unquenchable thirst for learning, and a gift for distinctive self-expression create, for me, a kind of male siren’s song. I don’t care how gorgeous a man is; if he can’t entice me with his mind, the s*xual chemistry won’t be there.
5. Sense of humor — A man who lacks a sense of humor is like a cold shower on legs. It’s impossible for me to connect with someone who’s ultra-literal, hyper-serious, and rarely laughs. For me, intellect and humor are inseparable bedfellows. Smart people read nuances and see the humor in situations. And the brand of humor is critical. Even if a guy is hot, if his version of funny doesn’t sync with mine, the sexy won’t stay sexy for long.
6. Warmth — It’s exhausting trying to connect with someone behind walls. Compassion, empathy, a ready smile, an easy laugh — these traits and actions are disarming in the best sense of the word. Kind is sexy. It just is.
7. Generosity — Stinginess is a turn-off. Not only stingy with money, but also stingy with feelings. While squandering one’s money and emotions indicate a lack of control or self-worth, counting pennies and withholding genuine contact suggest a preference for things over people. I’ve also found that stingy men aren’t as good lovers as their more generous counterparts. It’s not sexy to sleep with someone who holds back physically or emotionally in bed.
8. Affectionate — Affection is warmth in action. A soft kiss on the back of my neck as he walks by. A palm reaching through the hole in my jeans to squeeze my knee. Laying his head on my chest because it’s one of his favorite places to be. A man who loves touch for the sake of touch, whether or not it leads to s*x, is sexy.
9. Mindfulness — Not that long ago, I was attracted to men so ambitious that they appeared to be driven by motors. What I’ve learned is that that kind of “ambition” often masks insecurity, avarice, and aggression, qualities which are not remotely appealing. Mindfulness — the ability to be aware and present in the moment, even if that moment is painful — is the ultimate form of ambition because it requires a commitment to personal growth that is not for the faint of heart. A man who radiates quiet confidence, who is able to remain calm and centered in the face of challenges, makes me weak in the knees.
10. Partnership — The only place I want to be dominated is in the bedroom, and that still requires my consent. In all other contexts I want a man who doesn’t try to dominate me, who understands the need for compromise, reciprocity, communication, and respect. I have no time or patience for men who play games and control women in order to feel like men.
11. s*xual confidence — True s*xual confidence has nothing to do with man-hood size, smooth moves, and bedpost notches. It’s an ambience distilled from quiet authority, an ability to read my body and my breath, a sensual lingering in the moment that may or may not involve gazing in my eyes, but always requires a desire to be vulnerable and present. A sexually charged man who is in command of his urges and firmly situated in his s*xual expression will turn me into a breathless, perpetually aroused Alpha Submissive in no time flat.

Plans In Place To Replace Jega Before General Elections

Indications have emerged that the presidency has embarked on the process of replacing the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, who is seen as being too independent.
Jega, according to Vanguard, had been described by hawks around the president of being too independent-minded and ‘uncooperative’ despite being given the job on a platter of gold by the president’s men.
Vanguard learnt that although Jega reluctantly succumbed to pressure from the Presidency and its security chiefs to shift the polls, he might still not be allowed by the forces to conduct the rescheduled elections between March 28 and April 11. The news platform quoted ‘competent sources’ as saying that the Presidency was no longer comfortable with Jega and was therefore, working tirelessly to get him out of the commission to pave the way for a more ‘trusted hand’ to conduct the rescheduled elections.
The forces in the presidency against Jega were said to have convinced President Goodluck Jonathan not to extend Jega’s tenure, which ends this June, as they felt that Jega was rather too ‘difficult’ to deal with. The plan, Vanguard learnt is to ensure Jega leaves office inn March, as he would be asked to comply with the civil service procedure by proceeding on his three months terminal leave with effect from March 1. However, this leave is optional. The INEC boss may decide to work until his last day like former CBN governor did until he was suspended.
In case Jega decides to wait until his last day, which may not go down well with those who want him out, it is believed that a similar Sanusi situation may happen.
The INEC Chairman is already being accused of many things, including taking side with the opposition to undermine the success of Jonathan and his party in the next election.
Jonathan’s godfather, Chief Edwin Clark and other prominent politicians from the Southern part of the country had also last week accused Jega of working against the interest of the president and the PDP and had asked for his resignation.
Similarly, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, on Saturday, said Jega had lied about the state of the commission’s preparedness for the conduct of the election. The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, accused INEC of working with the opposition to deny its members of permanent voter cards in some states.
Vanguard gathered the Presidency had already lined up Jega’s replacement, another academic, who hails from the South-West and is currently heading a tertiary institution in the country. He is a professor of Political Science and International Relations and a sibling of a serving governor in the South-West, who is a close ally of President Goodluck Jonathan and his party, Vanguard reports, citing sources.

REVEALED: The Brains Behind The Postponement Of Election

The polls were billed for February 14 (presidential and National Assembly) and February 28 (governorship and House of Assembly).
Jonathan, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, is contesting against retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress and 12 other candidates at the presidential poll.
Two weeks ago, Dasuki, while speaking at a forum at the Chatham House in London, asked INEC to postpone the elections, saying the shift would allow for proper preparations and distribution of PVCs by the electoral body.
In an apparent reaction to Dasuki’s call, the United States had on January 25, 2015, advised Nigeria against postponing the elections.
The US Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, gave the advice after he met with Jonathan and Buhari.
Kerry urged the Federal Government not to postpone the elections as canvassed by Dasuki.
However, the military chiefs wrote to Jega, informing him of the security implication of holding the elections in February as earlier scheduled. This, it was learnt, what part of what influenced shifting of the polls.
Before the INEC chairman announced the new dates for the elections, the commission had insisted that the presidential and National Assembly elections be held on February 14, while the governorship and states House of Assembly election be held two weeks later.
Jega, however, changed the dates of the elections at a press conference he addressed at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Saturday. He repeatedly held the NSA and security chiefs responsible for the shift.
The press conference came up after he met with representatives of all registered political parties.
Jega was said to have on Saturday told the leaders of the parties, his officers and the civil society groups that the commission was ready for the election as planned, but that he was worried because of the claim by the security agencies that they would not be able to protect members of the staff of the commission and the electorates.
Sixteen political parties led by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party were said to have favoured the shifting of the elections, while nine others led by the opposition All Progressives Congress were against the move.
Jega also had a marathon meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners of all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
At the meetings, Jega was said to have told the attendees that he had received a letter from service chiefs advising that he should postpone the general elections on the grounds that the security agencies were engaged in a renewed battle against insurgency in the North-East.
This, they claimed, would require their full concentration.
In the letter, it was gathered that the security agencies were demanding a rescheduling of elections by, at least, six weeks.
He also told the leaders of the political parties and the Resident Electoral Commissioners that he received a letter on Wednesday from the NSA, informing him that it would be difficult for the security agencies to protect the electorates during the election.
The Council of State had on Thursday rose from a seven-hour meeting, advising the INEC to conduct the elections.
Jega was quoted to have told the council that the commission was ready for the conduct of the election but the military chiefs were quoted to have said they could not guarantee the security of electoral officers, materials and the electorate should the commission go ahead with the earlier schedule.
Same Thursday, Jonathan’s supporters under the aegis of the Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly led by Ijaw leader and ex-Minister of Information, Chief Edwin Clark, called for the postponement of the polls.
The group, at a press conference, pressed further by asking for the sacking Chairman, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and his arrest for allegedly conniving with some northerners to manipulate the presidential election against Jonathan.
Those in attendance included a former Vice-President, Alex Ekwueme, ex-Minister of Information, Walter Ofonagoro; ex-Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife; Peoples Democratic Party’s National Vice-Chairman (South-South), Dr. Cairo Ojugboh, and the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee of the recently held national confab, Senator Femi Okurounmu, among others.
Okurounmu, who read a prepared speech jointly signed by him, Clark and Ekwueme on behalf of the group, said the alleged connivance with the Northern Elders Forum was responsible for the near 100 per cent collection of Permanent Voter Cards in the North.
The PDP has also repeatedly called for a shift of the polls in the past two weeks.
An INEC National Commissioner, who spoke under anonymity after the Saturday meetings, said it was better for the commission to shift the elections in order to protect the integrity of their outcome and those that would take part in the conduct of the elections.
He said, “You needed to be at the meeting and see the mood of Jega. He was not happy because his integrity was at stake and because these same service chiefs had earlier given their words that they were ready.
“Now, if he didn’t listen to their advice, these same security agencies could create scenes (problems) for the elections. They could sabotage the distribution of sensitive materials.
“Apart from that, they could also refuse to provide security for those involved in the elections and could also sabotage the movement of sensitive materials.”
The source said almost everyone in the country was aware that the PDP-led Federal Government was not ready for the elections.
“If the Federal Government that is funding the security agencies and appointed their heads is not ready for elections, how do you compel their heads who are all appointees of the same government to say they are ready,” another INEC National Commissioner asked.

In-Laws Of Ini Edo To Expose Her Affair With Governor If…

Ini Edo’s divorce saga just got messier as her in-laws are reportedly threatening to wash her dirty linens in public.
The in-laws have threatened to make public dirty details about her alleged s*x life while she was still legally married to her husband, Philips Ehiagwina, while also calling her a liar for saying she never cheated on her husband.
A source close to the family said: “Ini Edo should shut up about the marriage crash because with the way she is going; by trying to paint Phillip as the wrong party, we may be forced to open her can of worms and it will not be palatable to her and her career. I can tell you that Ini Edo is a serial cheat who played the field behind her husband’s back for the duration of their marriage. Is she going to deny she was dating one Island big boy whose girlfriend organised her friends to beat her up and injure her? Ini Edo is not as innocent as she is trying to make people believe or think.”
According to the source, they caught Ini Edo on three different occasions with different men and if she dares them, they will mention the name of a South-South governor she had an affair with.
Also speaking on the matter, a close friend of her husband said: “Did she tell you how Phillip embarrassed her in front of her people when he went to collect his bride price? He told her people the kind of adulterous daughter they have and how she had been cheating on him right from the first day they were married. In fact, he did not want to collect the bride price but her people begged him to collect it as that would free her to get married to another man in the future.”
Meanwhile, Ruth Okoro , the ex-wife of Philip Ehiagwina has since moved on with her life after her ex-husband pitched tent with Ini Edo.
She is now a medical administrator, actress, and model based in Manhattan, New York.
Way back in 2007, a year before Ini wedded her estranged husband, Philip, Ruth had written an open letter to the popular actress saying:
“Hi Ini, I have information that you are having an affair with my husband, Philip Ehiagwina. He has been deceiving girls all over the place, making them believe he has heaven and earth. You are not the only girl obviously, but Ini watch your back so you don’t regret, I have nothing against you but a piece of advice. I heard that you might be pregnant for him, if it’s true, good luck. I called your manager and told her everything. You are a very pretty girl and should know how to respect your body and pray for the right husband. Do not be carried away by flashy things cause that could be deadly too. All that glitters isn’t gold, remember.”
Ruth recently released some photos. See them below:

Detailed Analysis: Legal Position On Buhari’s Educational Qualifications

The controversy over the exact status of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s educational qualifications in relation to his eligibility to aspire for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had been generating intense debate in recent time, forcing a closer examination of relevant constitutional provisions with a view to offering insights into the legal position on the matter.
Let me start by saying that the issue as to whether Buhari or any other candidate is eligible in terms of educational qualifications to aspire to the office of the President of Nigeria is not a trivial matter or a non-issue, but one of fundamental and constitutional significance that clearly falls within the realm of issue-based campaign. I therefore disagree with any suggestion that those raising the issue are petty or engaging in any smear campaign against Buhari’s candidacy. It is therefore proposed in this intervention to examine relevant constitutional provisions on the matter, including judicial attitude through the cases in order to assist informed analysis on the subject matter.
Section 131(d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) dealing with qualification for election for the office of the President provides as follows:
“A person shall be qualified for election to the office of the President if –
…he has been educated up to at least school certificate level or its equivalent.”
On the surface, one may be inclined to think that the clear import of this constitutional provision is that the minimum qualification that an aspirant for such exalted high office must possess is education up to at least the secondary school level. What then is the meaning of the phrase ‘minimum’?
The Black’s Law Dictionary, 8th edition, page 1016 defines ‘minimum’ as follows:
“Of, relating to, or constituting the smallest acceptable or possible quantity in a given case…”
The question that arises is whether in the light of the above constitutional provision, such aspirant necessarily must acquire such secondary school certificate or whether merely passing through the four walls of a secondary school without graduation from the said secondary school will suffice to satisfy the provision. In the case of HASKE V MAGAGI (2008) 3 LRECN PG. 127 AT 130 RATIO 2, the Court of Appeal, Kaduna Division held on the meaning of ‘Education up to secondary school certificate level or its equivalent as follows:
“Section 318(1) of the 1999 Constitution defines, “school certificate or its equivalent” in sub-paragraph (b) thereof to inter alia, mean, “education up to secondary school certificate level.” It is the law that where a word or phrase has been legally defined in an enactment, not only will its ordinary or popular meaning give way, its meaning according to its definition in another legislation can also not be imported into the enactment in which it has also been defined. See Yaro v Kurdah & Anor (1989) 1 NEPLER 1. Thus, in a number of decided cases, this court held that the meaning or the definition of the level “school certificate” or its equivalent as contained under Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution, can accommodate a candidate who woefully failed in their bid to obtain a West African School Certificate. They are described as WASC “attempted” to “failures”. In essence, a candidate need not to have obtained the secondary school certificate level or passed the Secondary School Certificate Examination. It is sufficient that such a person has attended a secondary school and read or studied up to the secondary school level, without passing and obtaining the certificate. See Bayo v. Njidda (2004) 8 NWLR (Pt. 876) 544; (2003) 3 LRECN 114. Chukwu v. Icheonwo (1999) 4 NWLR (Pt. 800) 597; (1999) 4 LRECN 332. (Pp. 143-144, paras, G-C).”
Similarly, in the case of AIKULOLA VS. AKOGWU (2006) 41WRN pg. 29 – 111 particularly at 46 ratio 11, the Court of Appeal, Abuja
Division, while construing the meaning of the words ‘school certificate’ under Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution, held as follows:
“Under section 318 of the 1999 Constitution, the word “school certificate” or its equivalent means:
(a) Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent or Grade II Teachers Certificate, the City and Guilds Certificate; or
(b) Education up to Secondary school level; or
(c) Primary Six Leaving Certificate or its equivalent plus
(i) Service in the public or private sector at the federal level in any capacity acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for a minimum of 10 years and
(ii) Attendance at course and training in such institutions as may be acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for periods totaling up to a minimum of one year; and
(iii) The ability to read, write and understand and communicate in the English language to the satisfaction of the commission.
In effect, a person seeking to become a candidate for an election to the House of Assembly of any State in the Federal Republic of Nigeria must possess at least one of the qualifications set out in (a) or (b) or (c) above. See Bayo v. Njidda (2004) 8 NWLR (Pt. 876) 544 at 618 – 620.
According to Per Odili, JCA (Pp. 81 – 82) lines 45 – 35, ‘School certificate or its equivalent’ means –
(a) A secondary school certificate or its equivalent, or Grade II Teacher’s Certificate, the City and Guilds Certificate; or (G) education up to Secondary School Certificate level; or (c) Primary Six School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent.”
Per Rhodes-Vivour, JCA (P. 104) lines. 30 – 45, in the case of DIGAI V. NANCHANG (2003) 2 LRECN pg. 513 – 546 at pg. 515 ratio 4 dealing with the requisite educational qualification for membership of a state House of Assembly, the Court of Appeal, Jos Division held as follows:
“From the provision of Section 106(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, all that is required of a member of a House of Assembly by way of educational qualification, is that he has been educated up to the school certificate level or its equivalent.
“A close reading and analysis of Section 106(c) and Section 318 clearly shows that all that is required of a candidate for the membership of House of Assembly, is that he had attended a secondary school up to school certificate level or its equivalent. To my mind, a testimonial from secondary school showing clearly that the 1st respondent attended and completed a secondary school as prescribed in section 106 (c) of the Constitution is sufficient. What is required under the law is that there must be evidence that a candidate is educated up to the school certificate level, and not that he must produce a certificate to that effect. (Pp. 542-543, paras G-D)”.
On whether the candidate need possess such school certificate to be eligible to contest, the same court held in the same ruling as follows:
“I agree that since there is evidence that the 2nd respondent sat for the School Certificate Examination on May/June 1975, this is sufficient to satisfy the requirement of Section 10(c) of the Decree. While the acquisition of sound education may be desirable to enable one discharge the functions as Chairman of Local Government Council, it is not absolutely necessary that such a person must possess a certificate to enable him to function effectively.” (P. 545, paras. B-D)”.
The other issue that is relevant is the question of who has the burden of proof; whether it is the candidate who is aspiring for the public office that must show that he has passed through a secondary school or the person alleging otherwise that must show that the aspirant does not hold such qualification. The answer to this poser was given in the case of Haske v. Mogaji (supra) where the court held on the question of onus to prove as follows:
“It is both legal and logical that the mere fact that a party has pleaded in his petition that the other party is not qualified to contest an election, because he lacked the requisite educational qualification, is not sufficient for the Tribunal to latch unto it and decide on it, in the absence of cogent and credible evidence of such non-qualification or disqualification being placed before the Tribunal. In the absence of evidence, such a plea in the petition ends and/or terminates with the petition”.
It is clear from the foregoing that it is the person alleging non-qualification of the candidate that has the responsibility of showing by cogent or convincing evidence that such aspirant never attended any such Secondary School as alleged.
The foregoing analysis may have revealed the following:
(a) Buhari’s eligibility to contest for the office of the President of Nigeria can only be challenged if those making the allegation can show either that he has never attended any secondary school, that he never possessed any primary school leaving certificate, that he has never served in any public service for a period of 10 years in addition to his primary school certificate or that he has never sat for any school certificate examination.
It is immaterial whether he passed or failed such examination. To succeed, they must also show that he does not possess any higher qualification above the minimum requirement of secondary school certificate. In other words, they must show that all certificates acquired by the General in consequence of his military training at home and abroad, culminating in his rising to the position of a Major General in the Nigerian Army, were certificates below secondary school level or certificate. It is those making these allegations who must prove the allegations against the General. It is not the General who must show that he possesses such qualifications. The law is, ‘He who asserts must prove’.
(b) The Army authorities had publicly admitted that they have records of Buhari’s educational qualifications in their custody. The Army being a public institution can furnish the Certified True Copies of Buhari’s educational qualifications to appropriate authorities including INEC at the request of those making the allegations without bordering the General for such obligations.
It can be said that those who have raised the issue of the General’s qualifications and eligibility may have served patriotic intentions, but they need to do more by showing through concrete, cogent, compelling and believable evidence that the General neither attended any secondary school nor possesses any primary school leaving certificate including showing that his period of service in the army including service as Head of State of Nigeria in total do not rank up to 10 years for them to succeed in their patriotic crusade.
Finally, having raised the constitutional issue of qualification, no doubt an issue-based campaign, those interested in taking the issue further are advised to be guided by judicial pronouncements quoted copiously above if they want to be taken seriously. However, if they are basing their conclusion on speculations not backed up with empirical evidence, it is wise to advise them to consider the issue as closed while moving to other issues in the campaign that ought to be dictated by issues and not sentiments.

Nadia Buari Is Pregnant & Its Not For Jim Iyke But Her New Guy….

Beautiful Ghanaian screen goddess, Nadia Buari is reportedly pregnant and surprisingly, Jim Iyke isn’t the father. This indeed comes as a shocker that the lovebirds who have toured the world together were no longer spotted together in the last few months. Below is how The Trace is reporting it:
After reading this piece, you sure will consider The Trace the TMZ of Africa; especially after all we had to go through to derive this exclusive information when no one at Team NSB agreed to an interview with our reporters.
Well, if you have been wondering why Jim Iyke isn’t regular in Ghana like he used to be, this is your juice! And if you have also wondered why both Jim and Nadia aren’t seen coupling it up together in public any longer, Wonder no more. This article will come through as good news for all those who imagined Jim Iyke taking advantage of the Ghanaian goddess but will certainly settle as bad news for all the “NADJIs” who expected Africa’s biggest celebrity wedding.
So on Sunday December 7th 2014, romancemeetslife.com reported Nadia Buari was spotted with a humongous diamond ring at the burial of the late mother of co-actor Majid Michel which was linked to Jim Iyke and that was completely logical until we took a closer look and realized the ring on her finger differed from the one Jim proposed with, this one is actually bigger, nicer and much more expensive.
This raised our suspicions of a possible split between the two so we decided to investigate. You will find our discoveries rather fascinating.
Firstly, we observed Nadia in her recent pictures has gained weight and wears very lose clothes sighting the black lace robe she wore to Majid’s late mum’s funeral and the white cloth she wrapped during her birthday getaway as evidence.
Secondly, Nadia recently followed a new account on twitter which seemed quite gauche because we all know she only follows 30 accounts out of her 300,000 followers which include majorly her family, management with selected fans and friends.
Lastly, we also discovered the beautiful actress had taken more trips than usual to the USA, particularly Atlanta within the last few months. We are made aware Nadia resides in California but it all summed up when we received pictures of her with cooling with a hunk in Atlanta. Our sources suggest he is an old college mate but we suspect more.
So apparently prophet TB Joshua didn’t do a complete deliverance on Jim Iyke because the so-called spirit that is making him single and doesn’t want him to marry is still lingering in him.
